Law and language

(Department of Legal Theory)

The relationship between law and language takes many diferent forms:from the analysis of legal language as a technical language of the communication of (and about) law and legal discourse analyses, to analyses of law as language. Legal philosophy and legal theory of the 20th century brought the considerations of law and language and their mutual relationship into focus. This stream shall build upon and focus on these issues. The papers in this stream may address any of the law-and-language related topics, such as - legal language as technical language, - legal discourse analysis, - narratives in law, - law as language. We also welcome papers addressing matters of legal interpretation, as a more traditional angle of the relationship between law and language.
